Debby and Sam, Engagement Session at the Figueroa Hotel in downtown Los Angeles

Wow, what an amazing place to shoot… oh and what an amazing couple to shoot!! Could two people BE any more photogenic??? I can’t even wait for their wedding in July at Pelican Hill– they will be such a treat to shoot there as well!! What’s even better then all this? .. the ever awesome Katie Webb from Intertwined Events is their planner- nice!!

These next few were shot under a little hole of light I found swooping between the building and the canvas walkway cover. A little light in an otherwise very dark hotel.

A few chillin’ by the pool…

Love this next one- any guy would die for a girl to look at them like that!

And the perfect finish to add that ‘exciting city life’ feel.

Gotta love the blur!! As I said, these two were so fun to work with… hope to see you guys soon seeing as how you’re pretty much neighbors!

We could look at photos of this couple all day long! Lovely! (And kudos to Debby in those sky-high shoes!)

Featured: Utterly Engaged! Issue 17

We had such a fun time shooting these articles for UE. The goal was to showcase the unique gown designs offered at B Bride in Costa Mesa. They have some cool dresses!!

This is the cover, Studio EMP didn’t shoot… but it’s cool, right?

We shot this next set to showcase B Bride and some dresses from Fancy, New York. Our amateur models acted like true pros!

We were also asked to photograph B Bride’s grand re-opening after expanding their shop in less than a year in business, I think! Cool shop plus gracious owner equals quick growth!

And what a party it was!!

Thank you Lucia and Henny!! I had a great time working with you and look forward to the next one!

Thanks, Hitching Post PR, for inviting Studio EMP to shoot the party and for setting up the dress shoot- love!

Thanks to Summer at B Bride for always asking me to help- I’m truly honored!

Loved the florals by Art With Nature!

Design Visage did some great work on the models… and even supplied the models!

Published: Bride and Bloom Orange County Wedding Magazine

It’s always so exciting to see your work in a magazine and this was no different- Bride and Bloom has a great design and I was honored to contribute. Have a look at Studio EMP in the current issue:

Featured Wedding, Amy and Billy- I LOVED this wedding and B&B kept pushing back it’s printing until they had the right issue for it- they just had their two year anniversary!!! #worththewait!

And some table top designs…

Great designs by Jan at Flower Fusion:

Then we have two tables from Buds and Blooms:

And finally  one of my favorite set ups I’ve ever shot, and of course it’s got a ton of stuff from Found! Amanda at Fantasy Floral Design had a great idea, contacted Jeni (my beautiful and talented wife) at Found Vintage Rentals and they collaborated so well to create this simple but stunning setting. Amanda should get more love than they gave (she set up the whole thing)!!

We can’t thank Bride and Bloom enough for inviting us to contribute to a wonderful issue!

And much love too Hitching Post PR:)

EMP + found teaming up for family photo sessions!

Wonder twin powers, activate!!

NOTE~

If you can’t make it on the 11th, we will be shooting in the studio on the 10th so call the studio for either- 714.992.5400.

Thanks,

Joel

Love the new site. Great work on the outdoor portraiture. It really shows their personalities.

Rock Star Photo Shoot- Dave Stewart

A couple of months ago I got an amazing opportunity to photograph a real icon in the rock and roll world: Dave Stewart. My buddy Nathan at Deuesenberg Guitars hired me to photograph him with Doozy- amazing guitar- for a print ad. We had minutes to make the portrait as Dave is a busy guy. I used only three little Nikon SB-900 strobes attached to Pocket Wizard TT5 slaves because I new that space might be limited and I know these flashes like the back of my hand and I know I can depend on them.

After making the image Nathan sent it to Martin Huch, in Germany, who is AMAZING at creating surreal composites. Martin originally said that he loved the photograph and didn’t want to cut it up but the art director insisted he stay on the original path of the project.

Here is the album cover as posted on Dave’s website after Martin’s amazing skill and creativity was applied:

Dave Stewart Portrait by Joel Eckman Maus

I am truly honored to be a part of this incredible project and look forward to working with this dream team again soon!

Joel, I really liked how this turned out, but I also liked the original you showed Peter and I at our wedding that you took in the Studio. I like them both and what an honor to do this shoot. Congrats! – Meredith
