Stephanie•Mike {Married}

Wedding in Yosemite? Heck ya!” Joel got an email last Sunday night (5 days before this wedding took place) from a good friend, Davis Barber. He is a photography professor at Cal State Fullerton, and one of Joel’s biggest fans!:)He was in a bit of a panic because he was supposed to shoot his cousins wedding in Yosemite that Friday but unfortunately he had to have an emergency operation which was not going to allow him to do that…obviously! Without hesitation Joel agreed and left that Thursday afternoon to be there for the wedding on Friday. He was so excited to shoot a wedding in the snow, and for obvious reasons below, his excitement was well justified. Since he had never met the couple, and was going up there with no idea what the wedding would be like, he was more than pleasantly surprised when he arrived and met both Stephanie and Mike. The wedding took place at the beautiful and historic Ahwahnee Lodge.

I love the simplicity of this arrangement. Joel said Stephanie was so low maintenance that he thinks one of her bridesmaids put this together really quickly for her.

Stephanie looks like a model right out of a catalog. She is absolutely gorgeous and everything about her that day was amazing.

Not many people can pull off the straight face look (I always look mad when I try to ;() but Stephanie does it with such grace and style. Is it just me or does this look like an ad for Anthropologie? If they started selling wedding dresses that is.  Hhhmmmm

The Bride and the Bridesmaids all wore different style boots,  which Joel couldn’t wait to tell me. Boots are like, well, words alone cannot describe my love for boots. Only that I think I would wear them everyday of the year if I wouldn’t look completely awkward in 100 degree weather in the middle of summer (aside from the cowboy boot+sundress combo, nobody can take that away from me!)

I absolutely love this picture…not only because of the little leg tilt in her snazzy little boots, but also because of the innocence on the face of the flower girl in the background. So cute!

This shot below is one of my favorite shots of the day…I hope an explanation as to why is unnecessary, because I can’t really…it just makes me smile.

Although I have to admit I am a bit chilly looking at this photo, I can imagine it was warm sitting there as Stephanie and Mike exchanged their vows…and I can almost guarantee Joel was so full of adrenaline that he didn’t even notice the 40 degree weather. The same is probably true for Stephanie:)

Rad!!! Ya, I said it…RAD!!!

It wasn’t quite cold enough to snow but it started raining during the portraits so Stephanie put on Mikes hat and said she wanted to keep shooting– That is music to Joel’s ears, he said he could have shot for hours!

Joel was on the road by 7pm on Friday to make it home for a wedding in Laguna Beach on Saturday. I got a call as soon as he got in the car telling me that his 3 hours of shooting was well worth the 12 hours of driving round trip. I couldn’t agree more…hope you all do too:)

Wow, those are some amazing pictures!

I agree Van…I had about 20 more on the post but when Joel “edited” it he took them off, said it was too many…I disagree! Never too many pretty pictures to look at!!!

The background for this wedding is so untypical. It’s usually beaches or at least during the summer. I loved this!!! Can’t say it enough. The scenery is so beautiful. Awesome shots (of course) and LOVED her dress. I think I need a wedding re-do.

Loved all the boots. How sweet!
And once again a work of art!

Awesome…nice work Joel! What a cool spot to get married and how fortunate they were to have you there to save/document their day!

I didn’t realize rugged could be so beautiful – you can totally feel the calm and peacefulness of the snow and forest looking at these photos! It makes me want another wedding so I can do it like this! And the boots are an adorable idea.

Wow. Just wow. I feel cold for the bride, but these are really good photos!

Joel:

Davis was a professor of mine at CSUF and I was also concerned for his emergencies. That’s incredible that you took the opportunity to shoot this wedding in the snow. Some of these really showcase the majesty of the surroundings, such as the one with the couple in front of the evergreen. The contrast in some of these images is really second to none!

What incredible photos! I have to add an effusive thank you to Joel as well. He went above and beyond that day, and was beyond patient with all of us (particularly my irritating youngest.) The wedding was indeed magical, and Joel captured that perfectly. Our family is in your debt. –Christy (sister of the bride)
